Y2 – Mr Brown 22/23

Welcome to Year 2

Our Learning

There are 22 fantastic children in our class. The staff working in Year 2 are Mr Brown and Mrs Hornsby. Mrs Reilly teaches the children on a Tuesday afternoon.

PE

Our P.E. days are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child attends school in a full P.E. kit on these days.

Home Reading

In school children will read with an adult at least 3 times a week. Please make sure that children have their reading books in school every day. Children should read their books every night at home and we encourage you to sign their reading record every time they do.

Spellings

The children will be given spellings on a Monday and we will complete a spelling test on a Friday. Even though we complete lots of spelling activities during the week, the children are still encouraged to practise their spellings when they are at home. Please only practise the spellings on the page they are stuck onto.

Times Tables

It is also very important that your child knows their times tables as they help with almost every area of maths. At home, you could focus on 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

Our Learning

Throughout the year, the children will be enjoying a varied curriculum. They will be working from a variety of novels and texts in English. In Numeracy, the children will complete lots of work in topics such as place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and fractions. They will use concrete materials to help understand difficult concepts. A variety of problem solving questions will also deepen their understanding. In the afternoon we will look at lots of different interesting topics including the Great Fire of London, local Geography and keeping ourselves healthy. We will also be using a variety of musical instruments and lots of different materials in art and design & technology. To see a full overview of the curriculum, please click the link below.
